Is My Research Protectable?

You may never have thought of yourself as an "inventor," but your research may be eligible for intellectual property protection — whether you've developed a new compound, created a unique software application, discovered a novel material, thought of a new idea for a medical device or something else entirely.

Although patents are the type of protection most frequently sought by U.Va. inventors, the Patent Foundation assists researchers in achieving all of the major types of intellectual property protection. Visit Types of Intellectual Property Protection or call the Patent Foundation at 434.924.2175 for more information about the intellectual property protection that might be available for your research discoveries.
