John E. Pickard

Ph.D., Biomedical Engineering

John E. Pickard, Ph.D., joined the Patent Foundation in July 2008. He received his Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from the University of Virginia in May 2008, with a research focus on the fluid forces affecting leukocyte adhesion within the microvasculature. From his research, Pickard gained experience in high-resolution imaging of light microscopy, animal surgery, hydrodynamic analysis and computer modeling. In 2005, Pickard received a Master of Science in electrical engineering from the University of Virginia, where his research focused on computer algorithms for automated analysis of medical images. He also studied electrical engineering for his bachelor's degree, which he received in May 2001 from the University of Pennsylvania.

Prior to graduate school, Pickard worked as a business information specialist at ZS Associates, in Princeton, N.J. There he supported project teams working in the pharmaceutical industry with data handling and analysis skills.
